Traumatic Ulcers

Oral Ulceration, Traumatic Ulcer

The use of local anesthetic during a dental visit can cause children to inadvertently "bite" their lips or cheeks. The primary cause of this is a child's natural curiosity about the "numb" mouth area. For the sake of children and their parents, we do our best to explain that local anesthesia is only for a short period and provide instructions on how to avoid "lip biting." If this happens, please notify our office to determine whether or not your child needs treatment. Thank you (i.e., antibiotics or pain medicine).
