Bruxism

Bruxism is the clenching and grinding of the upper and lower teeth. The biting force of clenched jaws during sleep is up to six times that of waking hours.

Bruxism can lead to complications:

  • Enamel erosion.
  • Break dental work or fillings.
  • TMJ dysfunction worsens.
  • Create jaw, tooth, headache, or ear pain.
  • Irritate teeth and cause tooth sensitivity
  • Boost tooth mobility.
  • Can chip teeth.

Bruxism is not curable, but it can be managed. A Nightguard is the most common treatment to help relieve pain.
